IMPORTANCE: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is thought to be closely related to arterial stenotic or occlusive disease caused by atherosclerosis. However, there is still no definitive clinical evidence to confirm that patients with diabetes have a higher risk of restenosis. OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effect of DM on restenosis among patients undergoing endovascular treatment, such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) or stenting. DATA SOURCES AND STUDY SELECTION: The PubMed/Medline, EMBASE and Cochrane Library electronic databases were searched from 01/1990 to 12/2022, without language restrictions. Trials were included if they satisfied the following eligibility criteria: (1) RCTs of patients with or without DM; (2) lesions confined to the coronary arteries or femoral popliteal artery; (3) endovascular treatment via PTA or stenting; and (4) an outcome of restenosis at the target lesion site. The exclusion criteria included the following: (1) greater than 20% of patients lost to follow-up and (2) a secondary restenosis operation. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: Two researchers independently screened the titles and abstracts for relevance, obtained full texts of potentially eligible studies, and assessed suitability based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.. Disagreements were resolved through consultation with a third researcher. Treatment effects were measured by relative ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using random effects models. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The main observation endpoint was restenosis, including > 50% stenosis at angiography, or TLR of the primary operation lesion during the follow-up period. RESULTS: A total of 31,066 patients from 20 RCTs were included. Patients with DM had a higher risk of primary restenosis after endovascular treatment (RR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.25-1.62; p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This meta-analysis of all currently available RCTs showed that patients with DM are more prone to primary restenosis after endovascular treatment.

The gut microbiota plays an important role in the disease progression of inflammatory bowel disease. Although probiotics are effective against IBD, not many studies have investigated their effects on gut microbiota composition and immunomodulation in mouse colitis models. Our study aimed at the therapeutic effects of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei BNCC345679 for the first time and explored its impact on gut microbiome dysbiosis, inflammatory cytokines, related miRNAs, VCAM-1, oxidative stress, intestinal integrity, and mucus barrier. We found that oral intervention of L. paracasei BNCC345679 affects recovering beneficial microbial taxa, including lactobacillus spp. and akkermansia spp., followed by improved body weight, DAI score, and inflammatory cytokines. L. paracasei BNCC345679 mitigated oxidative stress and increased the expression of intestinal integrity proteins MUC2 and ZO-1. These results suggested that L. paracasei BNCC345679 has the capacity to reduce DSS-induced colitis and has the potential as a supplement for the mitigation of IBD.

This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the adsorption behaviors and mechanisms of phenol and catechol on magnetic graphene oxide (MGO) nanocomposites based on adsorption experiments, mathematical models, and molecular simulations. Through systematic experiments, the influence of various parameters, including contact time, pH conditions, and ionic strength, on the adsorption efficacy was comprehensively evaluated. The optimal contact time for adsorption was identified as 60 min, with the observation that an increase in inorganic salt concentration adversely affected the MGOs' adsorption capacity for both phenol and catechol. Specifically, MGOs exhibited a superior adsorption performance under mildly acidic conditions. The adsorption isotherm was well represented by the Langmuir model, suggesting monolayer coverage and finite adsorption sites for both pollutants. In terms of adsorption kinetics, a pseudo-first-order kinetic model was the most suitable for describing phenol adsorption, while catechol adsorption conformed more closely to a pseudo-second-order model, indicating distinct adsorption processes for these two similar compounds. Furthermore, this research utilized quantum chemical calculations to decipher the interaction mechanisms at the molecular level. Such calculations provided both a visual representation and a quantitative analysis of the interactions, elucidating the underlying physical and chemical forces governing the adsorption phenomena. The findings could not only offer crucial insights for the treatment of coal industrial wastewater containing phenolic compounds with bridging macroscopic observations with microscopic theoretical explanations but also advance the understanding of material-pollutant interactions in aqueous environments.

Mountain caviar is a fruit of Kochia scoparia that contains momordin Ic as a major saponin constituent. Its extract (MCE) has been shown to suppress blood glucose elevations in the human oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) as well as increases in blood glucose in OGTT, gastric emptying (GE), and glucose incorporation in the small intestine in rats. However, the effects of MCE and momordin Ic on glucose absorption in mice and these action mechanisms have not been examined for more than 2 decades. Therefore, we herein investigated the effects of MCE, its saponin fraction, and momordin Ic on blood glucose elevations in mice. Mouse blood glucose elevation tests were performed on carbohydrate-loaded mice. The mountain caviar saponin fraction significantly delayed blood glucose elevations in glucose-, sucrose-, and soluble starch-loaded mice. In glucose-loaded mice, the saponin fraction, MCE, and momordin Ic significantly suppressed rapid glucose elevations after glucose loading, but not sucrose loading. A mouse GE study was performed by loading with glucose and phenolphthalein solution. Momordin Ic and MCE strongly suppressed mouse GE. Intestinal glucose absorption was evaluated by the incorporation of 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) into Caco-2 cell layers and mouse duodenum wall vesicles. The results obtained showed that momordin Ic inhibited the incorporation of 2-DG into Caco-2 cells and mouse duodenum vesicles. Collectively, these results suggest that MCE, particularly the principal saponin, momordin Ic, preferably suppressed glucose-induced blood glucose elevations and delayed carbohydrate-induced glucose elevations in mice. The underlying mechanism was found to involve the suppression of GE and intestinal glucose absorption.

The low-toxic and environmentally friendly 2D lead-free perovskite has made significant progress in the exploration of "green" X-ray detectors. However, the gap in detection performance between them and their lead-based analogues remains a matter of concern that cannot be ignored. To reduce this gap, shortening the interlayer spacing to accelerate the migration and collection of X-ray carriers is a promising strategy. Herein, a Dion-Jacobson (DJ) lead-free double perovskite (4-AP)2 AgBiBr8 (1, 4-AP = 4-amidinopyridine) with an ultra-narrow interlayer spacing of 3.0 Å, is constructed by utilizing π-conjugated aromatic spacers. Strikingly, the subsequent enhanced carrier transport and increased crystal density lead to X-ray detectors based on bulk single crystals of 1 with a high sensitivity of 1117.3 µC Gy-1  cm-2 , superior to the vast majority of similar double perovskites. In particular, the tight connection of the inorganic layers by the divalent cations enhances structural rigidity and stability, further endowing 1 detector with ultralow dark current drift (3.06 × 10-8  nA cm-1  s-1  V-1 , 80 V), excellent multiple cycles switching X-ray irradiation stability, as well as long-term environmental stability (maintains over 94% photoresponse after 90 days). This work brings lead-free double perovskites one step closer to realizing efficient practical green applications.

BACKGROUND: A significant reduction in regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) is commonly observed during one-lung ventilation (OLV), while positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) can improve oxygenation. We compared the effects of three different PEEP levels on rSO2, pulmonary oxygenation, and hemodynamics during OLV. METHODS: Forty-three elderly patients who underwent thoracoscopic lobectomy were randomly assigned to one of six PEEP combinations which used a crossover design of 3 levels of PEEP-0 cmH2O, 5 cmH2O, and 10 cmH2O. The primary endpoint was rSO2 in patients receiving OLV 20 min after adjusting the PEEP. The secondary outcomes included hemodynamic and respiratory variables. RESULTS: After exclusion, thirty-six patients (36.11% female; age range: 60-76 year) were assigned to six groups (n = 6 in each group). The rSO2 was highest at OLV(0) than at OLV(10) (difference, 2.889%; [95% CI, 0.573 to 5.204%]; p = 0.008). Arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2) was lowest at OLV(0) compared with OLV(5) (difference, -62.639 mmHg; [95% CI, -106.170 to -19.108 mmHg]; p = 0.005) or OLV(10) (difference, -73.389 mmHg; [95% CI, -117.852 to -28.925 mmHg]; p = 0.001), while peak airway pressure (Ppeak) was lower at OLV(0) (difference, -4.222 mmHg; [95% CI, -5.140 to -3.304 mmHg]; p < 0.001) and OLV(5) (difference, -3.139 mmHg; [95% CI, -4.110 to -2.167 mmHg]; p < 0.001) than at OLV(10). CONCLUSIONS: PEEP with 10 cmH2O makes rSO2 decrease compared with 0 cmH2O. Applying PEEP with 5 cmH2O during OLV in elderly patients can improve oxygenation and maintain high rSO2 levels, without significantly increasing peak airway pressure compared to not using PEEP. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate neighboring Pt atoms can enhance the metal activity of NiCoP for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, it remains a great challenge to link Pt and NiCoP. Herein, we introduced curvature of bowl-like structure to construct Pt/NiCoP interface by adding a minimal 1 ‰-molar-ratio Pt. The as-prepared sample only requires an overpotential of 26.5 and 181.6 mV to accordingly achieve the current density of 10 and 500 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH. The water dissociation energy barrier (Ea) has a ~43 % decrease compared with NiCoP counterpart. It also shows an ultrahigh stability with a small degradation rate of 10.6 µV h-1 at harsh conditions (500 mA cm-2 and 50 °C) after 3000 hrs. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (sXAS), and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) verify the interface electron transfer lowers the valence state of Co/Ni and activates them. DFT calculations also confirm the catalytic transition step of NiCoP can change from Heyrovsky (2.71 eV) to Tafel step (0.51 eV) in the neighborhood of Pt, in accord with the result of the improved Hads at the interface disclosed by in situ electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) tests.

Background: Sleep problems in preschoolers are becoming increasingly prominent, and the association between sleep status and anxiety symptoms has attracted growing attention. However, studies investigating the relationship between bedtime and nighttime sleep duration in preschoolers and their anxiety symptoms remain scant. We used the large sample data from the Longhua Cohort Study of Children in Shenzhen, China (LCCS) to analyze the association between bedtime and sleep in preschoolers and their anxiety symptoms. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 69,138 preschoolers in Longhua District, Shenzhen, China was conducted in 2022. Data on sociodemographic characteristics of families, bedtime, nighttime sleep duration of preschoolers, and their anxiety symptoms (measured by the Spence Preschool Children Anxiety Scale) were collected through a structured questionnaire completed by the parents. Using binary logistic regression models, the relationship between bedtime, nighttime sleep duration, and childhood anxiety symptoms was examined. Results: The bedtimes of preschoolers were concentrated between 21:01-22:00 (52.41%). Among the preschoolers, 38.70% had bedtimes later than 22:00, and 75.49% had insufficient nighttime sleep duration. The positive screening rate for anxiety symptoms among preschoolers was 3.50%. After adjusting for confounding factors using binary logistic regression models, compared with preschoolers with bedtime ≤21:00, The OR (95%CI) values of anxiety in preschoolers with bedtime ≥23:01, 22:01-23:00 and 21:01-22:00 were 2.86 (2.21-3.69), 1.51 (1.27-1.79) and 1.48 (1.26-1.76), respectively. Compared with those with sufficient nighttime sleep duration, the OR (95%CI) of children with nighttime sleep duration less than 9 h was 1.36 (1.23-1.51). Conclusion: An association exists between bedtime and nighttime sleep duration in preschoolers and their anxiety symptoms. Preschoolers with 21:00 for bedtime and a nighttime sleep duration of 10 h may have lower anxiety symptoms. These findings support the importance of adequate sleep for preventing anxiety symptoms in children.

The direct observation of a solid-state chemical reaction can reveal otherwise hidden mechanisms that control the reaction kinetics. However, probing the chemical bond breaking and formation at the molecular level remains challenging because of the insufficient spatial-temporal resolution and composition analysis of available characterization methods. Using atomic-resolution differential phase-contrast imaging in scanning transmission electron microscopy, we have visualized the decomposition chemistry of K2PtCl4 to identify its transient intermediate phases and their interfaces that characterize the chemical reduction process. The crystalline structure of K2PtCl4 is found to undergo a disproportionation reaction to form K2PtCl6, followed by gradual reduction to crystalline Pt metal and KCl. By directly imaging different Pt─Cl bond configurations and comparing them to models predicted via density functional theory calculations, a causal connection between the initial and final states of a chemical reaction is established, showcasing new opportunities to resolve reaction pathways through atomistic experimental visualization.

Carbon support is essential for electrocatalysis, but limitations remain, as carbon corrosion can lead to electrocatalyst degradation and affect the long-term durability of electrocatalysts. Here, we studied the corrosion dynamics of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and Vulcan carbon (VC) together with platinum (Pt) nanoparticles in real time by liquid cell (LC) transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that CNTs with a high degree of graphitization exhibited higher corrosion resistance compared to VC. Furthermore, we observed that the main degradation path of Pt nanoparticles in Pt/CNTs was ripening, while in Pt/VC, it was aggregation and coalescence, which was dominated by the interactions between Pt nanoparticles and different hybridization of carbon supports. Finally, we performed an ex situ CV stability test to confirm the conclusions obtained from in situ experiments. This work provides deep insights into the corrosion mechanism of carbon-supported electrocatalysts to optimize the design of electrocatalysts with a higher durability.

Circularly polarized light (CPL) detection has wide applications in many fields, where the anisotropy factor (gIph ) is an important indicator to characterize the CPL detection performance. So far, many materials with high gIph have been reported, however, the exploration of the regulation of gIph is still in its infancy. Herein, two novel alternating chiral-achiral cations intercalation-type chiral hybrid perovskites (CHPs), named (R/S-1-phenylpropylamine)(propylamine)PbBr4 (1-R/S), exhibit above room-temperature (RT) polar-phase transition, which greatly regulates the gIph value. The gIph of 1-R is 0.04 in high-temperature phase chiral non-polar (P21 21 21 ) by applying 5 V bias, interestingly, with the temperature decrease, the gIph value in low-temperature phase chiral polar (P21 ) gradually increases (0.22@360K, 0.40@340K, 0.47@320K), and finally reaches a maximum of 0.5 at RT. Such value is not only the highest among 2D CHPs to date, but presents a 12.5-fold amplification compared with 0.04. Further, this rare phenomenon should be attributed to the built-in electric field induced by the polar photovoltaic effect, which sheds light on further obtaining CHPs with large gIph .

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as severe colitis, are associated with the development of lung inflammation and tissue damage. Pueraria lobata (P. lobata) plays an essential role in controlling cytokines. However, the exact mechanism of the inflammation response is still unknown. PURPOSE: To investigate the effects of the P. lobata-derived exosomes-like nanovesicles (PLDENs) on colitis and their role in the lung inflammatory response. METHODS: In this study, we investigated the effects of PLDENs on the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis and explored the mechanisms by forming the gut-lung axis. PLDENs were characterized by mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis. RESULTS: The results showed that PLDENs had significant preventive effects in DSS-induced colitis and pathological changes in colons in a dose-dependent manner. Simultaneously, the treatment of PLDENs could effectively reduce inflammatory changes in the lung. PLDENs could selectively regulate the composition of gut microbiota. CONCLUSION: These data suggested that the treatment of PLDENs could 'attenuate DSS-induced colitis and lung inflammation, providing an efficacious supplement for reducing co-morbidities in IBD patients.

RESUMO

Due to their distinctive physical and chemical characteristics, high entropy alloys (HEAs), a class of alloys comprising multiple elements, have garnered a lot of attention. It is demonstrated recently that HEA electrocatalysts increase the activity and stability of several processes. In this paper, the most recent developments in HEA electrocatalysts research are reviewed, and the performance of HEAs in catalyzing key reactions in water electrolysis and fuel cells is summarized. In addition, the design strategies for HEA electrocatalysts optimization is introduced, which include component selection, size optimization, morphology control, structural engineering, crystal phase regulation, and theoretical prediction, which can guide component selection and structural design of HEA electrocatalysts.

Impetigo herpetiformis is a rare skin disease that most often occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy. It is currently considered as a form of generalized pustular psoriasis and the typical skin lesions comprise small sterile pustules. Here, a case of impetigo herpetiformis in the second trimester of pregnancy after 7 weeks of hydroxychloroquine administration for suspected Sjogren's syndrome is reported. Treatment with anti-infective, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive medication did not improve the patient's condition. Following delivery of a live male by emergency caesarean section at 29 weeks' gestation, the rash was reported to be completely resolved by 3 months postpartum. Previously published cases of impetigo herpetiformis in the second trimester of pregnancy that were retrieved from a search of the PubMed database are also reviewed and discussed.

A nitrogen-doped carbon-supported CuNi bimetallic nanocluster catalyst (CuNi-NC) was first synthesized via a facile ZIF-derived method. With a synergistic effect between Cu and Ni, the catalyst exhibited a maximum FECO of 96.3%. FECO is higher than 90% in a broad potential range of 600 mV, which was ascribed to the controllable pore size distribution. Density functional theory further demonstrated the preferred formation of *COOH in the catalytic process.

Lead halide hybrid perovskites have made great progress in direct X-ray detection and broadband photodetection, but the existence of toxic Pb and the demand for external operating voltage have severely limited their further applications and operational stability improvements. Therefore, exploring "green" lead-free hybrid perovskite that can both achieve X-ray detection and broadband photodetection without external voltage is of great importance, but remains severely challenging. Herein, using centrosymmetric (BZA)3 BiI6 (1, BZA = benzylamine) as a template, a pair of chiral-polar lead-free perovskites, (BZA)2 (R/S-PPA)BiI6 (2-R/S, R/S-PPA = (R/S)-1-Phenylpropylamine) are successfully obtained by introducing chiral aryl cations of (R/S)-1-Phenylpropylamine. Compared to 1, chiral-polar 2-R presents a significant irradiation-responsive bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) with an open circuit photovoltage of 0.4 V, which enables it with self-powered X-ray, UV-vis-NIR broadband photodetection. Specifically, 2-R device exhibits an ultralow detection limit of 18.5 nGy s-1 and excellent operational stability. Furthermore, 2-R as the first lead-free perovskite achieves significant broad-spectrum (377-940 nm) photodetection via light-induced pyroelectric effect. This work sheds light on the rational crystal reconstruction engineering and design of "green" hybrid perovskite toward high-demanded self-powered radiation detection and broadband photodetection.

Chiral hybrid perovskites combine the advantages of chiral materials and halide perovskites, offering an ideal platform for the design of circularly polarized light (CPL) detectors. The pyro-phototronic effect, as a special mechanism of the photoexcited pyroelectric signal, can significantly improve the performance of photodetectors, whereas it remains a great challenge to achieve pyroelectricity-based CPL detection. In this work, the chiroptical phenomena and the pyro-phototronic effect are combined in chiral-polar perovskites to achieve unprecedented pyroelectric-based CPL detection. Two novel two-dimensional (2D) lead-free chiral-polar double perovskites, S/R-[(4-aminophenyl)ethylamine]2AgBiI8·0.5H2O, are successfully designed and synthesized by introducing chiral organic ligands into metal halide frameworks. Strikingly, the photoresponse is substantially boosted with the support of the pyro-phototronic effect, showing an increased pyro-phototronic current that is 40 times greater than the photovoltaic current. Furthermore, the pyroelectric-based detector possesses excellent CPL detection capacity to distinguish different polarization states of CPL photons, which achieve an impressive glph of up to 0.27 at zero bias. This study provides a brand new process for CPL detection by utilizing the pyro-phototronic effect in chiral-polar perovskites, which opens a new avenue for chiral materials in optoelectronic applications.

Polar photovoltaic effect (PPE) has attracted great attention in regulating desired optoelectronic properties, which can be driven by order-disorder and displacive phase transitions. Bond-switching is also a feasible method to induce PPE, but such investigation is very rare. Lead-halide hybrid perovskite (LHHP) is an outstanding photodetection material; lead atoms possess rich coordination modes to provide possibilities to construct switchable bonds. Here, a unique perovskitizer N─Pb bond-switching is disclosed to induce polar photovoltage in the emerging LHHP, PA2 MHy2 Pb3 Br10 (1, PA = n-propylamine, MHy = methylhydrazine). Interestingly, the perovskitizer MHy+ provides 2s2 lone pair while the Pb atom affords empty d orbitals, which coordinate with each other to generate a flexible N─Pb bond. Further, the introduction of N─Pb bonds results in a high distortion of the PbBr6 octahedron to form local polarity and further orientation to induce spontaneous polarization. More importantly, such a flexible N─Pb bond switching mechanism drives a notable PPE and controllable polarized photo-response, a polarization ratio up to 9.7 at the polar phase in striking contrast with the non-polar phase (1.03). The work provides the first demonstration of bond-switching to induce polar phase transition and polar photovoltage in the photoconductive hybrid perovskites for photoelectric applications.

Supported metal catalysts often suffer from rapid degradation under harsh conditions due to material failure and weak metal-support interaction. Here we propose using reductive hydrogenated borophene to in-situ synthesize Pt/B/C catalysts with small sizes (~2.5 nm), high-density dispersion (up to 80 wt%Pt), and promising stability, originating from forming Pt-B bond which are theoretically ~5× stronger than Pt-C. Based on the Pt/B/C module, a series (~18 kinds) of carbon supported binary, ternary, quaternary, and quinary Pt intermetallic compound nanocatalysts with sub-4 nm size are synthesized. Thanks to the stable intermetallics and strong metal-support interaction, annealing at 1000 °C does not cause those nanoparticles sintering. They also show much improved activity and stability in electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction. Therefore, by introducing the boron chemistry, the hydrogenated borophene derived multielement catalysts enable the synergy of small size, high loading, stable anchoring, and flexible compositions, thus demonstrating high versatility toward efficient and durable catalysis.

The use of Advance Oxidation Process (AOPs) has been extensively examined in order to eradicate organic pollutants. This review assesses the efficacy of photolysis, O3 based (O3/UV, O3/H2O2, O3/H2O2/UV, H2O2/UV, Fenton, Fenton-like, hetero-system) and sonochemical and electro-oxidative AOPs in this regard. The main purpose of this review and some suggestions for the advancement of AOPs is to facilitate the elimination of toxic organic pollutants. Initially proposed for the purification of drinking water in 1980, AOPs have since been employed for various wastewater treatments. AOPs technologies are essentially a process intensification through the use of hybrid methods for wastewater treatment, which generate large amounts of hydroxyl (•OH) and sulfate (SO4·-) radicals, the ultimate oxidants for the remediation of organic pollutants. This review covers the use of AOPs and ozone or UV treatment in combination to create a powerful method of wastewater treatment. This novel approach has been demonstrated to be highly effective, with the acceleration of the oxidation process through Fenton reaction and photocatalytic oxidation technologies. It is clear that Advance Oxidation Process are a helpful for the degradation of organic toxic compounds. Additionally, other processes such as •OH and SO4·- radical-based oxidation may also arise during AOPs treatment and contribute to the reduction of target organic pollutants. This review summarizes the current development of AOPs treatment of wastewater organic pollutants.
